Some important points about HIJRA - Shaykh Abu Bilaal Al-Hadrami

This except was taken from our noble Shaykh Abu Bilaal Al-Hadrami's (may Allah preserve him) Tafsir Al-Bagawi lesson after the Dhurh Prayer on 14th, Safar, 1440H - 15th October 2019

In his explanation of the verse below (An-Nahl 16:110) the Shaykh mentioned some important points about hijrah that have been translated:

Allah says in his noble book:

[Surat An-Nahl 110]

Then, indeed your Lord, to those who emigrated after they had been compelled [to renounce their religion] and thereafter fought [for the cause of Allah ] and were patient - indeed, your Lord, after that, is Forgiving and Merciful.

Shaykh Abu Bilaal Al-Hadrami (may Allah preserve him) said, commenting on the verse:

"The person that is unable to establish his religion in a land cannot remain in it under oppression, fitnah and subjugation whilst he is able to leave this land of fitnah to go to a Muslim land; a land of ease, goodness and tranquillity.

If he remains (living) under oppression whilst he is able to leave; he has no excuse in front of Allah.

[Surat An-Nisa' 97]

Verily! As for those whom the angels take (in death) while they are wronging themselves (as they stayed among the disbelievers even though emigration was obligatory for them), they (angels) say (to them): "In what (condition) were you?" They reply: "We were weak and oppressed on earth." They (angels) say: "Was not the earth of Allah spacious enough for you to emigrate therein?" Such men will find their abode in Hell - What an evil destination!

[Surat An-Nisa' 98]

Except the weak ones among men, women and children who cannot devise a plan, nor are they able to direct their way.

[Surat An-Nisa' 99]

For these there is hope that Allah will forgive them, and Allah is Ever Oft Pardoning, Oft-Forgiving}

Then he (Allah ﷻ, in the following verses) mentioned the virtues of hijrah and what it entails from great goodness. Based upon this; it is not permissible for a person to remain within the midst of the disbelievers; under their oppression and being trialed in his religion and unable to establish his religion whilst he is able to leave.

Thus, if he fulfils the (following) conditions then it is obligatory upon him to leave;
(1)He is unable to establish his religion
(2) He is able to leave. As for if he is weak and unable to leave:

[Surat An-Nisa' 98]

Except the weak ones among men, women and children who cannot devise a plan, nor are they able to direct their way.

Then he is patient until Allah ﷻ makes a way out for him.

Additionally; whoever is able to establish their religion in the lands of the disbelievers; leaving is recommended and not obligatory upon him. (In this case) leaving the lands of the disbelievers is recommended and not obligatory upon him with the condition that he is able to establish his religion.

The meaning of establishment of the religion is not (only) that you pray and fast and perform hajj. No. This is not the establishment of the religion that is perhaps understood by people.

(Even if you can pray, fast etc.) you are under their authority, power, laws and oppression. Perhaps your sons and daughters, you are unable to raise them (correctly). What kind of establishment of the religion is this?

You cannot raise your children with the correct Islamic upbringing that pleases Allah ﷻ whilst you excuse yourself (from hijrah) because you can pray and fast (and say) "I have a salafee masjid there".
OK, (what about) your daughters and sons who you cannot raise? And you yourself are subject to the laws of those disbelieving criminals.

What religion is being established?"
