📗A section in:
How to perform Ghusl

The ghusl which is waajib, it is to pour the water over all of the body, or to immerse oneself entirely in it (the water), and to rinse the mouth (Al-madhmadhah) and nose with water (Al-istinshaaq) and to rub the hands over the body for whoever is able.

And it (the waajib ghusl) is not legislative (i.e accepted/rewarded) except with the intention of lifting that which is incumbent to be lifted (1)

And it is recommended to give precedence (when washing) to the limbs of wudhu except for the feet.

Ibnu 'uthaymeen said:
"The ghusl has 2 characteristics:
📌The first: A rewarded characteristic (which if fulfilled then the ghusl is accepted)
📌The second: a complete characteristic.

...the Ghusl which contains that which is waajib only then this is the ghusl which is rewarded.
And the Ghusl which contains that which is waajib and that which is recommended also, then this is the second (i.e the more complete ghusl)."
End of the speech of shaykh uthaymeen.
[Al-mumt'i - 1/297]

____
(1) So if your ghusl is due to majority impurity then you must make the intention in lifting the majority impurity and if it is for yawmul jumu'ah then your intention is according to that and so on and so forth....

The ghusl which is accepted/rewarded:
It is that which 2 things must be established in:
1.The intention
2.To cover the entire body in water.
This is agreed upon

However the scholars have differed in some issues, from them:
•To Say bismillah
•To rinse the mouth with water  (Almadhmadhah)
•To rinse the nose with water (Al-istinshaaq)
•Wiping the hands over the body

📝Saying Bismillah (before performing the Ghusl)

Ibnu Qudaamah - May Allah have mercy upon him-said:
As for the naming (saying bismillah) then it's ruling is the same as the when performing wudhu which has already preceeded, rather it's ruling in majority impurity is lighter, because the hadeeth in regards to the naming, only includes the wudhu and nothing else."
End of his speech
[Al-mughni- 1/162]

And it has already preceeded in the rulings pertaining wudhu that the correct opinion is that it is recommended, and this is the opinion of the majority of scholars.

📝Wiping the hands over the body when performing Ghusl.

The majority of the scholars are on the opinion that it isn't waajib to wipe your hands over your body in Ghusl, if you have certainty or you are most likely sure that the water has touched  your entire body, because (in this case) he is certain that he has performed ghusl, even if he doesn't rub his hands over his body, and that which supports this is the hadeeth of Umm salamah- may Allah be pleased with her:

She said :
"Oh Messenger of Allah, I am a woman who has closely plaited hair on my head; should I undo it for taking a bath, because of sexual intercourse?"
He ﷺ said:
"No, it is enough for you to throw three handfuls of water on your head and then pour water over yourself, and you shall be purified"
[Reported by muslim]

So he ﷺ mentioned pouring the water and he ﷺ didn't mention rubbing the hands over the body.

📝Rinsing the mouth (Al-madhmadhah) and nose (Al-istinshaaq) in Ghusl.

Al-Haafidh ibn Hajr- may Allah mercy on him- said:
"A consensus has been established that performing wudhu in a Ghusl from major impurity is not waajib, and Al-madhmadhah and Al-istinshaaq are from the followers of the wudhu, so if wudhu is dropped then so are it's followers, and whatever has been reported from the prophet ﷺ (performing the madhmadah and istinshaaq) in the characteristic of his ghusl, then it is understood that this (performing it) is more perfect and better."
End of his speech.
[Fathul baari (an explanation of Saheehul bukhaari) 1/372]

This is the opinion of the maalikeeyah (followers of imaam maalik) and the Shaafi'eeyah (followers of imaam shaafi'ee) that the madhmadhah and the istinshaaq in the ghusl is not waajib.

The Hanifeeyah (followers of Abu haneefah) and the Hanaabilah (followers of imaam ahmad) have gone with that it is waajib and the ghusl is not accepted (without it), and their evidence is that it (al-madhmadhah and al-istinshaaq) is from the face.

The first opinion is the most correct that they are not waajib, as for them being from the face then this is not what the consensus covers, rather that which is correct is that the inside of the mouth and nose are not considered to be part of the face, and the face is only that which an encounter is occurred by (1), and this has previously been mentioned in detail in the rulings pertaining wudhu.

__________
(1) i.e...the first thing which you notice from someones face when you are facing them, then this is what is considered as the face.
