Wearing a black imaamah. This is because the Khawarij have taken this as an emblem for themselves at present. Shaykh Muhammad ibn Hizaam

📩 Question:

Did the Prophet ﷺ wear a black imaamah (turban). (If he ﷺ did) does this mean that we can follow the example of the Prophet ﷺ by wearing a black imaamah?

📝 Answer:

On the authority of 'Amr ibn Harith:
'The Prophet ﷺ wore a black headscarf on the day of the conquest of Makkah.' [Muslim]

However, it was more common for the Prophet ﷺ to wear white (clothing).

On the authority of ibn Abbas, that the Prophet ﷺ said:
'Wear white garments, as white clothes are the best or your apparel. And shroud your deceased in white.'
[Abu Dalwood, Tirmithi; this narration is sound]

Thus, it is preferable to wear white, however if one were on occasion to wear black; there is no problem with that.

But I do not advise anyone to wear a black imaamah on a regular basis in these times. This is because the Khawarij have taken this as an emblem for themselves at present. They are now associated with wearing black imaamah, so it is better not to wear them in order to avoid this association.

Furthermore, Imaam Ahmed disliked that anyone should shave his head; due to the fact that this resembled the Khawarij. This is in light of the fact that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Shave the head completely or leave it completely.'
[Abu Dalwood]

And the Prophet ﷺ shaved the heads of Ja'far's children, may Allaah be pleased with him.
